Kaliningrad (Russia)

19 september 2019 - Błędno, Polen

We managed to arrange an electronic visa for Kaliningrad in Lithuania. Filling in the form was quite easy, but uploading the correct picture took us hours and we needed some help from a Belgian photographer😜.

At the border the female customs officers were very kind and getting a stamp in our passport was quite easy, but getting the campervan registered took 2 hours. This male customs officer copied all the documents several times and in between he closed the window of the customs office.

We had booked an hotel in the northern part of Kaliningrad, Lesnoye, but it was very hard to find it. Almost no one spoke English, finally I found a shop where a lady understood me a little bit and she called the hotel and could explain us how  to get there. 😊

Next day we went to Jantarny, a small place at the west coast. Here we found a camping that was part of an hotel. The camping was on the other side of the road, with a beautiful view on the Baltic sea. The strange thing was that is was secured with high closed fences and camera's. To enter the beach you needed an electronic card. But it was a nice quiet place with a beautiful sunset and a cat that kept us company.

Next planned destination was the city Kaliningrad. With the app Park4night I found a camping next to an hotel. Check in was at the reception of the hotel. I entered the reception and there was a German lady trying to check in for a camper pitch, but the lady from the reception was shouting to her in German. "Ich brauch ein visa!!" Then she started talking to me. "Nur Deutch, kein English, passport, visa" .  I told her that I only have an Electronic visa on my mobile phone. "NEIN, print auf A4" , and she pointed angry to A4 sheets. I said "Sorry, but it is an E-visa and accepted by the customs officer". "NEIN, Ich brauch A4" . I left the hotel, followed by the lady from Germany. I gave her the address from the camping in Jantarny and we drove to the border of Poland. That was the end of our trip in Kaliningrad😕
